Karim Elhelaly is a Partner and Head of the Technology, Media and Telecoms (TMT) practice at BLK Partners, based in Dubai.
Karim is a leading technology lawyer with wealth of experience advising multinational corporations, technology companies, financial institutions, and government entities on complex technology, data, and regulatory matters across the Middle East, Africa, and international markets.
Karim focuses on technology law, corporate governance, data privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property, FinTech, digital media, and regulatory compliance, with a particular focus on AI and emerging technologies.
Karim advises boards, C-suite executives, and business leaders on complex technology transactions, AI-driven solutions, digital transformation initiatives, data governance frameworks, and cross-border regulatory matters. His experience spans cloud computing, data protection, technology procurement, outsourcing arrangements, intellectual property commercialization, and emerging technologies.
In addition to his transactional and advisory practice, Karim supports clients in designing and implementing governance and compliance frameworks, enabling organizations to navigate evolving legal and regulatory landscapes while fostering innovation and sustainable growth. He has extensive experience leading multi-jurisdictional projects and advising on strategic, technology-driven initiatives.
Karim holds an LL.B. from the University of Cairo and an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Technology Law from Franklin Pierce Law Center, New Hampshire, United States. He is a certified mediator for commercial and intellectual property disputes through the ADR Center of Rome and is among a select group of legal professionals globally to hold the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) designation. Karim is also the founder of Data Administration Management Association of Egypt (“DAMA-Egypt”) and serves as Regional Coordinator for DAMA International across the Middle East and Africa. He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) USA & Canada, an Associate Member of the American Bar Association (IP, Science & Technology, Franchise & Law Practice Management), and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), and is admitted to the Egyptian Bar Association (Supreme Court).
